Today I offer my observations of a cafe here in Henderson, NV called The Mad Batter Cafe & Bakery.

The Mad Batter Cafe & Bakery

This relatively new establishment is at the corner of College and East Horizon, having taken up shop where the old Subway previously resided.

I went with my son for a Sunday breakfast to see how the new place looked. Below are my observations.

Location

As previously stated, The Mad Batter is at the corner of Horizon and College, on the Northeast corner, sharing a parking lot with McDonald’s. The parking lot isn’t large, but I don’t think that ever becomes much of an issue.

Inside

The cafe has 6 tables and 7 bar stools. There are also a number of 2-person tables lining the outside of the cafe. As I entered, I was told to take a seat at any table of my choice.

Because it was a Sunday morning, my son and I ordered from the breakfast menu. This is available Mon-Sat from 7am to 11am, and Sunday from 8am to 2pm. I opted for the breakfast sandwich, while he tried the French toast.

Observations

I’ve typically shied away from chain breakfast locations such as IHOP and Denny’s, opting more for the intimacy of smaller locations such as the Southwest Diner in Boulder City – which has typically been my go-to breakfast spot. (I would say The Coffee Cup, but ever since it appeared on television, it’s just too crowded for me).

My breakfast sandwich was cooked well, and included a delightful unexpected kick due to their “spicy house sauce.” The tea tasted freshly brewed. I would eat this again.

The staff was very friendly and attentive, and seemed regularly engaged with the patrons. I found that the service, food, and value were all on par with my current favorite breakfast spots – and this one is in my own backyard.

If I were to offer any criticism, it would be the confusing use of the words “Batter” and “Bakery” in the name which seemed to have no relevance to my experience. I saw no bakery items sitting out or on the menu, nor was I offered anything I would expect from a bakery. Perhaps it is just something I missed, but the bakery portion wasn’t as prominent as I expected.

The total bill for two breakfasts: $24.48, plus tip.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a local breakfast or lunch joint with excellent service, food, and competitive prices, you owe it to yourself to stop by The Mad Batter Cafe & Bakery to try it out. Unless I just completely missed out on something, the word “Bakery” didn’t seem to reflect my experience. That, however, doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a great addition to the area, and potentially a new favorite breakfast spot of mine.
