Egg-Tastic: Microwave Egg Cooker

This As Seen on TV product appears to have been almost immediately shipped to stores, with a very short online-only campaign. It is a ceramic egg cooker which is said to make up to 4 eggs at once. The official website was geteggtastic.com, which was registered in October 2014. As of this February 2017 update, that website forwards to a site selling As Seen on TV products.

Egg-Tastic Cost

You can still find Eggtastic online and in stores for about $8. I’ve seen it marked down to under $5 in some stores (Marshalls), and even spotted it at a dollar store here in Las Vegas (it sold out very quickly).

Egg-Tastic Review

My initial observation about Eggtastic was that it reminded me of the Stone Wave Microwave Cooker which hit the airwaves a couple of years earlier, but slightly larger and without a handle. The omission of a handle is unfortunate as Eggtastic tends to get quite hot and must be handled with pot holders. Using pot holders on its slick material feels a bit precarious. The Stone Wave has a hollow handle which doesn’t not get very warm, and allows for easy handling of that product.

Eggtastic delivers results similar to other microwave egg cooking methods in that it tends to have a runny section in the bottom, even after cooking for the suggested time. I’ve found that including a little butter on the bottom and flipping eggs halfway through the cook time has been a viable solution.

My parents shudder at the thought of microwaved eggs, but I tend to like the ease and convenience, even if I must forfeit a little fluffiness and texture. Eggtastic is good for people who don’t particularly like cooking, or perhaps in dorms or offices where a fridge and microwave are present, but not a stove.

Reviews around the internet for Eggtastic are mostly positive, typically notching around a 3.5 star rating. Not everyone likes microwaved eggs, and the fact that the unit gets so hot may turn some people off. I highly recommend spraying the bottom with cooking spray before using, because the cleanup can be a bit messy without that step.

Keep in mind that the 4-egg limit assumes you’re not adding any ingredients. If you plan to add ingredients such as veggies or ham, you will have to reduce the number of eggs. You don’t want to overfill it, unless you feel like wiping egg residue off of the bottom of your microwave.

There are other ceramic microwave cookers out there, so you may want to shop around before making your final purchase.

Conclusion

Eggtastic is a ceramic egg cooker which can make up to 4 eggs at once. Not everyone likes the concept of microwaved eggs, and the unit gets too hot to handle without oven mitts. Personally, I think the convenience makes it worth a look, although I feel that an older As Seen on TV ceramic cooker with a handle is still superior.
